Similarities
In terms of connectivity both device features 3G/HSDPA (7.2 Mbps), 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR. Both devices also brought 5 megapixel autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus and VGA video recording minus flash.
This similarities continue in the screen section as both sports 3.2” 320 x 480 pixel ouch sensitive screen. The 600MHz Qualcomm MSM 7227 drum processor also found in both device. 384MB RAM in both device add to the long list of similarities not to mention expandable micro SD slot up to 32GB, stereo FM radios (with RDS) and GPS/A-GPS radio.
Differences
While both share very similar hardware features in the looks and design they are much different. The Aria size is 104.1 x 58.4 x 11.7mm, while the HD Mini is smaller measures 103.8 x 57.7 x 11.7mm. The Aria is also heavier with 115g and HD Mini is 110g.
With the Android 2.1 Eclair running on Aria this device wins with more user friendly and more app support than the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Professional installed on HD Mini.
In battery life the HD Mini beats the Aria with on paper 7.25 hours talk time and 500 hours of standby time while the Aria’s life only 6 hours talk time and 372 standby time.
Conclusions:
The HD Mini actually emerges as the winner of this fight (1-2). The Aria has everything going for it, but on a straight like-for-like tech comparison, the HD Mini is lighter, smaller and can last longer than its brother. It’s not a result you might have expected. If this had been a straight Android vs. Windows Mobile face-off, the Aria would probably win every time
