The competition in tablet market is getting hotter this year followed by the upcoming launch of BlackBerry Tablet device that is the BlackBerry Playbook and Samsung Galaxy Tab that will ran over Apple’s iPad.
Both devices when it finally launch will likely to be the two most
wanted tablet device. Where liking is personal preference but let’s on
the paper which device is the better one.
Size and screen: Both have a 7” display delivers more portability factors. The Galaxy Tab is slightly
lighter than the Playbook at 380g from 400g. They share also the same
1024 x 600 pixel, WSVGA resolution screen, capacitive touch screens with
full multi-touch and gesture support. Being slightly lighter, the Galaxy wins this part.
Processors: In paper certainly the Galaxy Tab’s A8
1GHz processor with PowerVR SGX540 could not match the Playbook’s Cortex
A9-based dual-core 1GHz processor. However the Galaxy’s processor is
more than enough to do what a tab could do. The RAM of the Playbook is
also twice as big as the Galaxy
at 1GHz. Rumors said that the dual-core Orion chip is being developed by
Samsung and will be released in 2011, but for now the Playbook is still
the winner.
Apps: in apps, games and
services support the BlackBerry lost with its unsuccessfulness to
brought user an adequate apps store because the apps aren’t particularly
good or up to much of a high standard. It is even worse on Playbook,
because the OS only look similar but actually it is way different and
doesn’t support BlackBerry old apps.
On the other side, bringing the Android OS, all the apps for Android available in Android Market can be used with addition of many dedicated apps for the Tab developed by Android and also Samsung.
Imaging: both devices are equipped with dual-cameras
unlike the iPad. The Playbook brings 5 MP rear and 3MP in front. The
main camera is capable to record 1080p HD video. On the other hand,
The Galaxy Tab has a 3MP rear camera with auto-focus and an LED Flash
and a 1.3MP in front. Both are able to make video calls, however the
Playbook camera is way better on the paper, so in this section the
winner is Playbook.
Operating Systems: the new BlackBerry OS for tab is
made specifically for use on a tablet device and has full OpenGL, POSIX,
Adobe Mobile AIR, Adobe Flash and HTML5 support. However there is still
not much app for this tab could offer. While, the Android 2.2 Froyo in
the Galaxy Tab is rapidly supported by apps developers. But since have
very limited information about this then we decided not to make a
verdict.
Ins-and-Outs: On this section we talk about the
connectivity of both devices. The Playbook brings microHDMI and microUSB
port, as well as Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. On the other side the Galaxy Tab
also brings the same connectivity but sadly it is not universal but
proprietary. Based on this fact, we choose the Playbook to be the winner
on this section.
In conclusion, for know we say we will lean more on the Galaxy Tab.
With more things to be expected and developed. However we still do not
have the complete information and user review on these devices. Since
both devices has not been launched yet, the final
version could be quite surprising, see we better wait until both
devices are tested. That is all for now, stay tuned for updated news.
