• Tips n Tricks: To Copy Data From Symbian, Windows Mobile, And BlackBerry To Android

Almost 300,000 devices a day are activated by the Android platform, already surpassed the iPhone sales. So it’s no wonder that many users from other platforms such as iOS, Windows mobile, Symbian and Blackberry are migrating to the new popular champion. But maybe the biggest problem they immediately face is transferring their personal data, contacts, more particularly. Android can only offer solution by using Google, and this is may be uncomfortable for some users to upload their address book to Google. This is because for most Windows Mobile and Blackberry users,
contacts are not only personal but they also mean business. So it is inconvenient for them if they have to go through a long process of first finding a program that can sync their old mobile phone contact to Gmail, and then sync them back to their Android device. And there is no way of transferring other data such as SMS messages, call logs, bookmarks etc.

Luckily, Sprite Mobile has come up with a totally free solution, Sprite Migrate, for this rather complicated situation that works with Windows Mobile (5.0+), Symbian (S60 3rd Edition FP1+) and Blackberry.
Below is a three step solution, and we are going to walk you through each of them.
Step 1 – Saving Data From Old Phone
The first step prepares the data on your old phone for migration. Click the step 1 link, and choose the device that you currently own. On the ‘Get Started’ pages, you can find a listing of all currently supported devices. You will have need to download a client software for your platform that will compile all your data for migration, and prepare a file that Sprite Migrate can recognize. Each platform’s individual page contains more information and download links. For maximum ease of use, it is better to navigate to the URLs directly on your mobile device.
Once the data on your old phone is prepared and migration file has been generated, proceed to Step 2.
Step 2 – Converting Data For Migration
Since Symbian, Android cannot read the user data from Windows Mobile and Blackberry. Therefore, this step involves data converting into a format that Android OS can recognize. You will need to download the PC application (Windows only). In the PC companion, provide the input path for your backup migration file, and select and output location. Tap ‘Convert’ to begin the process.
Step 3 – Loading Data On Android Phone
The last step, you can load the data to your Android phone. Transfer the output file to the roof of your Android’s SD card or internal storage, and download the app ‘Sprite Migrate’ from Android Market (It’s downloaded for free, just search it by name). It is a must that you save the migrate-ready.smf file directly on the storage card or phone memory, and nit inside a folder.
Launch the Sprite Migrate application on your Android device. Tap ‘migrate’ and the first tab will ask you to choose the migration file. Select the file; select the data that you want to copy in the next tab. Currently, Sprite Migrate only supports Contacts, Call Logs, SMS ad Bookmarks, but the developers promised more content supports in the future.
Hit the Migrate button in the third tab to begin copying data. It is a quick process actually, and when the application is done working, all the data from your old phone is ready to use with your new Android smartphone.
Remember that this process will overwrite any existing data in the selected categories on your Android device, so make sure you backup first for anything that is worth saving.
Extra Tip: If you are really keen on not syncing your contacts with Gmail/Google, make sure to turn off contacts sync in your phone’s Google account settings.
